Murphy River Walk | Murphy, NC
Hidden deep in the Appalachian Mountains lies a little town called Murphy. This sweet town is one of the westernmost towns in North Carolina, and here you will find a lot of culture, great views and deep southern food. Murphy is situated in the middle of Cherokee County, a county that has a population of roughly 29,000. Murphy is a hidden gem and is a sought-after place to cohabitate in by many mountain seekers. The Appalachian Mountains are the closest mountains to states such as Florida, Georgia and Alabama, so it makes Murphy a choice destination for vacationers.
While visiting Murphy, one will have plenty of options in terms of connecting with nature. One of the most amazing places that Murphy has to offer is the Murphy River Walk in downtown Murphy. This location is truly the hidden gem within the hidden gem. This approximate 2 mile trail boasts some of the most amazing native scenes. Whether you resonate with marshy wetlands or love the gentle roll of a stream, this walk has it all for you. This trail is a gentle one, and does not even require hiking boots unless that is your preference. The Murphy River Walk also features yards of boardwalks, gazebos, and sitting places along the way.
What is a trail without an encounter of wildlife? The animals you are sure to see on this trail are squirrels, fish, ducks and ducklings, a variety of insects and butterflies, occasionally some deer and on a VERY RARE occasion a bear. For the most part, you will encounter other hikers and walkers who are enjoying the trail just like you will.
Walk the retired train tracks. Feel the vibrations of the natural marble and granite stones. Cleanse your hands in native waters. Breathe in fresh, mountain air. Listen to the symphonic songs of birds and katydids. Inhale sweet scents of honeysuckle and mountain laurels. Whatever you do here, do it whilst fully present in the moment.
The Murphy River Walk is an absolute MUST VISIT on your trip. It won’t take you very long to complete, and when you are done you can circle back to town and grab some delicious food fare the town has to offer. You can also peruse the few boutique style shops such as Blue Moon Elise or Rumors Clothing.
